Fleur-de-lis Stencil Art Prints

When we think of stenciling art, we often picture an image painted on a wall. But have you ever considered using stencils to create art prints to hang on the wall?

Well, stenciling art is a great way to decorate. You can use unique designs to match the theme of any room and choose colors in the print to match any décor. Your framed artwork can be totally customized to fit your space!

We’re going to explore the many ways of decorative painting art prints with stencils. For now, let’s start with the basics. It’s always good to keep it simple, right? So, the easiest way to create stenciling art is by using a single design.

The fleur-de-lis prints above were made with simple three overlay designs (one overlay for each color). They were painted on a plain white background, matted with a double matt and framed. The paint colors were chosen to accent the surrounding décor. It was a very easy project and they definitely make a statement.

Oriental Designs in Art

The fleur-de-lis prints match well in a classic or traditional setting. The next two stenciling art prints below are both Asian designs though the color schemes suggest that they would be in different environments.

Here are some other ideas if you are into a different style: if you have a tropical décor, find a palm tree or shell stencil pattern for a feminine surrounding, try a single rose bud stencil design for a child’s room, paint some farm or zoo animals. By creating your own stenciling art, you are in complete control of the style, themes, colors and size.

Bold Colors or Neutrals?

Notice in the two Oriental inspired stenciling art prints that the images are accented with Chinese symbols. Those symbols have meanings like Harmony, Long Life and Friendship. So what about Stencil Word Sayings with pictures? Maybe you have some inspirational words that have deep meaning to you. Well, create a wall art stencil print that has an image of something you love with your favorite inspirational words woven in the background (or foreground).

You may be curious about what type of paper works best for creating stencil art prints. You want a paper that has a smooth finish to allow the stencil to lay flat on the surface so that the edges of the painting will be clean and crisp. Also, you want a matte finish that will readily accept paint. Make sure it is heavyweight and thick so that the wet paint won’t cause the paper to bubble and stretch.

Matching Art Prints to Everything Else in the Room

With one collection of stencils you can design your theme like in this nursery. The stencils used to paint the door on the armoire, the tractor on the onesie and the art prints hanging above the armoire are from a book named On the Farm: A Book of Stencils.

(You can order the book below along with a collection of Fleur-de-lis and Oriental Designs. Or shop our entire collection of Printable Stencils by clicking here!)

With printable stencils like these, you can resize them to your desire. For example, notice the little lambs near the bottom of the armoire door and the same lambs in the art prints above the armoire are different sizes but they are the same stencil pattern.

Creating Art Just for the Holidays

You can even create stenciling art prints for the holidays like these reindeer. It's a very unique way to decorate and it's easy to swap out your year round art with Christmas Art Prints.

Well, I hope this article has started your creative juices flowing. Go ahead and try this out and have some fun! Tune in next time for some Stenciling Ideas on using themed stencil groups.

Happy Stenciling,
